KVM Switch - USBc Model
KVM Switch - USBc Model
DisplayPort over USBc was perhaps the weakest aspect of the original level1 KVM. While many people reported success, it was problematic in some scenarios.. especially Macs. We found the 2013 "trashcan" Mac Pros, for example, to be operating out of displayport spec. Combining the Level1 KVM with an external DP repeater resolves the issue but we didn't want to have work-arounds if we could help it with USBc.
Enter the USBc KVM. This KVM accepts USBc inputs from up to two devices and provides a clean Display Port output from the USB interface. In addition, the KVM provides USB2 and 3 connectivity to the peripheral connected via the USBc cable.
Do you have a phone that supports external displays via USBc? (Some phones like Samsungs' basically turn into a chromebook with an external mouse/keyboard/display is attached). We've taken steps to allow that functionality on the KVM as well.
There is a micro-switch to allow you to pick between allocating cable bandwidth to the display (USB limited to USB2 speeds) or the USB3 interface as there is not enough bandwidth on the wire to support the highest DP resolutions and bit depths plus full-speed USB3. So you can pick what you want. DO NOT CHANGE THE SWITCH WHILE POWER IS ON. Only when totally unplugged. Please.
Cabling Note: There are a lot of crap USBc cables out there. You MUST use a cable that supports DP AND USB3 over USBc. If in doubt, use a thunderbolt cable. (Even though the KVM is NOT thunderbolt. Silly, I know, blame the USB working group..)
Note: The KVM does not provide ANY USBc power delivery. you cannot charge a laptop, or even a mobile phone, through the USBc interface.
If you like, you can daisy chain this KVM into one of the ports on the existing Display Port KVM. the USBc KVM works just fine stand-alone as well.
We have tested 4k/60 with the 2017/2018/2019 USBc MacBook Pros with good results on this KVM. (With the display port KVM you needed an expensive thunderbolt dock or USBc to DP cable with a built-in repeater which could be hard to find or expensive in its own right).
THIS IS A PRE-ORDER. We will be shipping items in 6-8 weeks around mid-June 2019. We have completed final firmware and will accept orders for the next two weeks only. Then we will order parts and start assembly/programming.
